Anta de Cima’s Argilla- Montargil Alentejo

The Argilla and Talha de Argilla wines are grown and produced at the Herdade da Anta de Cima, located in “Serra de Montargil”, “Ponte de Sor” region in Alto Alentejo. Owned by the Tenreiro family, the last time wine was grown on the property was in the 1950s and the old cellar still remains. The Tenreiro family replanted this site in 2010 when they created Argilla. Today they produce about 5,000 cases of wine from a small vineyard on the farm, including a range of Talha (amphora) wines which are aged 4 months in 140 liter clay vessels. Consulting winemaker is Nuno Mira do Ò.

The full Herdade Anta de Cima is not a small property, and the family utilizes an Integrated Production management strategy that interlinks many native species of plant and animal in an effort to create a harmonious balance of sustainability. Besides wine, the main products of the herdade are oak cork, pine nuts, sheep for meat and the famous Alentejano pig which feed off of the acorns from the cork oak in their later lives giving the delicious Presunto Pata Negra its divine fat quality.

“We aim to create a symbiosis between our work and the ecology of the Herdade.”
